The Communications Team of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf have produced a new brief guide to the way in which the Church in the Diocese is organised.
The hope is that it will be useful to newcomers less familiar with the structure of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf, and it has been prepared as a document to be shared with anyone members think might find it helpful.
Many people who attend the churches of the Diocese do not have experience of an Anglican church, having formerly worshipped in a variety of other denominational churches not available in their new locality. Also, some branches of the Anglican Communion differ from Cyprus and the Gulf in the extent to which decisions are made at local rather than diocesan level.
The new leaflet spells out clearly the Episcopal model in which ‘the Bishop in Synod’ is the organisational principle; or as the leaflet expresses it: Epicopally led: Synodically governed. The leaflet also tells readers what to expect in worship, namely the Global Anglican tradition.
Readers are introduced to the Province, and the Anglican Consultative Council, and Archbishop Hosam is pictured along with a former Secretary of the Anglican Communion. In a Diocese , part of whose uniqueness is its diversity, the hope is that the leaflet will be seen as offering a genuine welcome to all newcomers, making it easier to feel at home from the get-go.
