There are two particular features in this issue. Over the last six months we have witnessed the use of chemical weapons and increased suffering in Syria, a growth in the number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan, further intercommunal violence in Iraq and the military takeover in Egypt. Hope seems sparse. But the editor has taken a powerful prayer by a Jesuit from Syria to set these critical events within a context of prayer and devotion as they are offered to God.
The second theme arises from the Archbishop of Canterbury’s visit to Egypt and Jerusalem and his warm commendation of the works of service to the wider communities made by both dioceses. From Jerusalem we learn about the opening of a Diabetic Clinic in Ramallah and the developments at the Vocational Centre.
