Good Friday Offering

2017 Good Friday/Easter Offering

  • Start of Lent - March 1st, 2017

  • Good Friday - April 14th, 2017

  • Easter Sunday - April 16th 2017

Since 1922, Anglican/Episcopal church congregations have supported the ministries of the Middle East Church through the Good Friday Offering. This year the situation of Christians and Churches across the Middle East has become significantly more complex and difficult in many countries. Support for their presence and witness is vital.

Good Friday collections will help fund the ministries of the dioceses in the region such as hospitals, schools and other social welfare programmes that serve local communities of all faiths.

Along with your prayers please support the long-standing tradition of allocating the Good Friday Offering, or other Easter Offering, to support the work of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East.

I come again, this year, to appeal for your generous support and prayer for the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East. The area includes Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. In the midst of all the turmoil around it, the Church remains a beacon of hope. The Church has suffered much and needs all our support. I am pleased to note that last year, the Good Friday Offering sent to the Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East via JMECA came to £4,819.33. May the Lord continue to bless and keep you.

JMECA invites parishes to dedicate their Good Friday or Easter collections to support the work of the Anglican Church in the Middle East and to join together in prayer this Easter on issues of concern within the region:

  • supporting the presence and role of Christians

  • movements for peace and reconciliation

  • the development of just government

  • meeting the needs of the poor and disadvantaged

  • resolution of the Israel/Palestine conflict

Good Friday Walk of Witness in Jerusalem

Bishop Suheil carrying a cross on Good Friday 2012

For 150 years, the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East has borne, in a special way, the responsibility of sharing the cross of Jesus.

  • - by helping to maintain the Christian witness in the Holy Land

  • - by serving all of God’s People there in a variety of ministries throughout the four dioceses,

  • - by proclaiming the gospel and promoting justice, peace and love.
